Need a New Career? Truck Driving School Career Fair Opens Doors to Teamster Jobs

Dozens of aspiring CDL truck drivers turned up at the United States Truck Driving School training and career fair Tuesday in Wheat Ridge, Colo., to explore their options -- stopping to talk with Teamsters Local 455 officers and members about opportunities at Teamster employers including BreakThru Beverage, Sysco, UPS and Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits.
Teamsters Local 455 Vice President Herb Whitaker said Local 455's appearance -- including both the Local's Teamster trucks -- was prompted by overwhelming demand from Teamster employers for CDL-certified drivers.
"These aren't just jobs: These are careers that provide union wages, benefits and legally binding contracts," he said. "Teamster-represented companies need trained, expert drivers and this is an opportunity to see which jobs are available, understand the process for getting a CDL, and discover that these can be life-changing jobs for families."
Truck drivers, according to the Truck Driving School, earn great pay and benefits, have job security and have opportunities to advance their careers. Their school, according to their materials, gives men and women the opportunity to "meet local and national employers to learn about the industry and open CDL positions earning up to $87,000" annually.
The next training and career fair is scheduled for Oct. 15, and Whitaker expects the event to grow -- an opportunity for employers to fill vacant driver positions. "I want to challenge each and every one of our Teamster employers to be there in October."
